Course Overview:
This course looks at the people with dysphagia having trouble swallowing and require a mealtime management plan to maintain safety and enjoy their meals. This will assist participants to develop their knowledge and confidence to assist patients with their specific eating and drinking needs including safe ingesting of food and drinks; and understanding the use of International Dysphagia Diet Standard Initiative (IDDS).
Upon completion of this course, participants will receive a Certificate of Attainment.
Learning Outcomes:
- Signs and symptoms of choking/dysphagia
- Risk factors for choking/aspiration
- Assisting dysphagia patients with meals and drinks safely
- Food and Fluid modifications recommended by Speech Pathologist (in line with (IDDSI)
- Create an enjoyable dining experience
- Safe Swallowing Strategies
- Management and response to choking/aspiration
