Course Overview:
This course provides clinicians with effective training in tracheostomy care, that can help prevent and manage complications, improve patient’s outcomes, and enhance their overall quality of care
It aims to ensure patients receive appropriate care in the management of a tracheostomy.
Upon completion of this course, participants will receive a Certificate of Attainment.
Learning Outcomes:
- Understanding Tracheostomies (anatomy, physiology, indications, procedures) and placement of tracheostomy
- Uses of different tracheostomy tubes
- Maintenance of airway (humidification, suctioning, tube stabilization, tube change, inner cannula cleaning and change, cuff pressure)
- Emergency Management (difficult airway drills, acute deterioration, acute respiratory distress, dislodged or removed tube, bleeding)
- Communicate planning of care with clients/resident/participant
- Infection prevention and control
- Documentation, record keeping and reporting
- Duty of care and Scope of practice
